For more than 20 years, Ben Rea, LCSW, has helped clients attain the balance and calm they seek. In depth training in multiple treatment orientations allows Ben to look at a client’s experience from many angles at once.
This approach, mixed with a fascination in trying to explain what unifies theoretical orientations, has led Ben to create several models that aim to explain psychological processes. The goal has been to quickly get his clients up to speed, so they can begin the rewarding work of learning to manage their own emotional system as quickly and thoroughly as possible.
Ben was born in South Africa, but largely grew up split between Omaha, Nebraska, and French-speaking African countries. Ben graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Virginia with two separate Bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Studio Art, and earning “Highest Honors” for his thesis titled “Indirect Interpersonal Conflict, and its Effects on Children.”
Following college, Ben worked as both a professional artist showing from major galleries around the country, while publishing psychology research from the University of Georgia, Emory University, Georgia State University, and the University of Denver. He presented his findings at both national and international conferences.
Ben attained his MSW from the University of Georgia, where he completed two Masters’ theses. In his post-licensure years, Ben has had private practices in both San Francisco and San Luis Obispo, California. Married with three children, Ben continues to passionately engage in the field, while enjoying the beautiful community and landscape of the “SLO lifestyle.”
